Find LocallyFrom the genus Diospyros, or “Divine Fruit,” persimmons have been cultivated in Japan and China for nearly 1,300 years. They continue to ripen after being picked and are only edible when fully soft and ready (September – December).
Don’t worry, you’re not the only one unfamiliar with this sweet treat. There’s a Farmers’ Almanac article titled “What the Heck is a Persimmon?” for that very reason. Grown from Florida to Connecticut, Iowa to Texas, persimmons are actually quite common.
