William Root House

One of the oldest homes in the Atlanta area, the c. 1845 William Root House offers an in-depth look at daily life for the Root family and the enslaved people who worked and lived on the property. The Root House gardens are designed to reflect the gardening practices of the mid-19th century. The gardens are planted with vegetables, medicinal and culinary herbs, fruit trees, decorative flowers, and blooming shrubs. All the plants in the Root House gardens have been researched for availability in Georgia at the time the house was built.
