William Root House Museum & Garden

One of the oldest homes in the Atlanta area, the c. 1845 William Root House offers an in-depth look at daily life for the Root family and the enslaved people who worked and lived on the property. The Root House gardens are designed to reflect the gardening practices of the mid-19th century. The gardens are planted with vegetables, medicinal and culinary herbs, fruit trees, decorative flowers, and blooming shrubs. All the plants in the Root House gardens have been researched for availability in Georgia at the time the house was built. Georgia grown products are available for purchase in the Gift Shop located on the property. Each spring the Root House hosts a plant sale featuring heirloom and pass-along plants. Each fall the Root House hosts a beer festival featuring a selection of beers crafted with hops, fruit, and herbs harvested from the gardens on the property. The gardens are also available to rent for parties, weddings, and receptions.
