Cattle definitely bullies out the competition when it comes to Georgia’s livestock and aquaculture, making up almost 32% of the industry’s nearly $1.5 billion market value. In fact, beef is the No. 4 commodity in the state.
There are more Angus beef cows in Georgia than any other breed. Surprisingly, despite the million-or-so head, there aren’t many studs. That’s because ranchers normally have one “breeding” bull for every 25 cows. The others are castrated to make them more docile.
